After becoming a Permanent Resident, the next step is applying for your citizenship as soon as you meet the requirements
To become a Canadian Citizen, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Canadian Permanent Resident.
- Have been physically present in Canada as a Permanent Resident for at least 1,095 days out of the five years before you apply.
- Meet your personal income tax filing obligations.
- Meet minimum language requirements in English or French. Applicants who are 18 to
54 years of age are required to take an English or French test. The minimum language requirement is Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 4 in speaking and listening.
- Applicants who are 18 to 54 years of age are required
to take a test to meet the knowledge requirement for citizenship. They must have a good understanding
of Canada’s history, values, institutions and symbols.
Canadian Passport
A Canadian passport is the passport issued to citizens of Canada.
It enables the bearer to enter or re-enter Canada freely; travel to and
from other countries in accordance with visa requirements.
